NEbraskaCERT CISSP Preparation Course
Note: Class starts Monday April 24th from
6:00 PM - 8:30 PM. The class room is in the Peter
Kiewit Institute (PKI) Room 279 located at 1110 South
76th Street, Omaha Nebraska. When you arrive please
park in front in the 1 hour parking and we'll have
parking permits for you in the class room.
I. Course Description:
The focus of the course is on computer security. It encompasses all areas of information security including:
- Access Control Systems and Methodology
- {Computer} Operations Security
- Cryptography
- Application and System Development
- Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Planning
- Telecommunications and Network Security
- Security Architecture and Models
- Physical Security
- Security Management Practices
- Law, Investigations & Ethics
These are the ten Common Body of Knowledge areas covered in the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) exam, and while it is not the intent of this course to teach this test, it is our intention to cover the knowledge areas in sufficient detail that an otherwise qualified individual could pass the exam.
II. Course Objectives/Outcomes:
Each student will acquire and be able to demonstrate:
- a command of basic computer security terms and concepts.
- a knowledge of computer security architectures and systems security.
- a knowledge of security policy, standards, organizations, and publications.
- a familiarity of physical and environmental security.
- a working knowledge of risk management terms, concepts, and procedures.
- a familiarity with computer security law, investigations and ethics.
- a familiarity with computer applications and operations security.
- a familiarity with computer cryptography (encryption) and telecommunications security.
